2. A Hosting Service (this is basically a giant always-on computer that keeps your website available to viewers 24-7)
3. The Website Itself | Domain Name Registration (The "www.com" part) is controlled by just a few organizations. Their fees must be paid one way or another. We use Dotster.com, since they are inexpensive and easy to work with. Note: You don't actually HAVE to have a registered domain name. You can get a free website with a service such as Geocities or Tripod.com, or sometimes with your Internet Service Provider. Your address in such cases will read something like this: users.msn.com/yourname. Many people use these successfully, but you should be aware of two things: | The address will be hard to remember | | The website is likely to be jammed with advertising (that's how they are able to offer it for free!) |

A HOSTING SERVICE is a business that maintains a SERVER and rents out space in it to website owners. WEBSITES ARE "HOSTED" - or made available to the web-surfing public - on a large, always-on, professionally maintained computer called a SERVER. | | | | Hosting Services Variables: | Bandwidth (how many users can access a site at the same time.
